"Transparency and Cold Conviction" by Cellar Door Diaries

In early March the band Cellar Door Diaries approach Jonathan Shaw to produce their new single. Nic SimmondsAt that time the song was untitled as Nic Simmonds (lead vocals) had not yet composed lyrics for the track. Having recorded with Shaw Music Studios before, the band had already reviewed the contract and both parties signed the agreement on Friday 17th March.

James AndrewsJames Andrews, drummer for Cellar Door Diaries, had already sequenced the intended drum track for the new single so that Dan Herber (guitars), Andre Potgieter (guitars) and Etienne Van Rensburg (bass) could lay down tracks for their respective parts done on the 21st, 22nd and 24th of March respectively. The equipment for the drums was set up on Sunday 26th and James recorded the drums on the morning of Monday 27th March. The recording was done in approximately 3 hours finishing around lunch. Following the drum session, Dan HerberAndreDan came back for a guitar session on Friday 7th April to complete his guitars for the track. Shortly after this guitar session, a meeting was held on Wednesday 12th April between Jon, Nic and Dan to discuss the vocals for the project. While Andre completed his guitars that Friday, Nic set about tighting up his vocals by taking additional vocal lessons.

At the same time that the recording project was taking shape the band dived into the live circuit. Etienne Van RensburgThis, Jon doing his thingcombined with study commitments, lead to a delay in the expected produciton time. Vocal sessions officially started on Wednesday 17th May with Nic putting down an initial vocal take.

A while after this initial session, on Friday 16th June, Nic returned to finish his lead Vocals. Following this, on Wednesday 21st and 28th June, Dan came through to the studio to lay down his backing vocals. Etienne also contributed his haunting whispers featured at the beginning of the track in this time too. In the week following this final recording session, Jon mixed and mastered the track for review by the band. Following some superficial changes by the band the recording was officially finished on 13th July 2006. By this time, the track had finally been given a name: "Transperency and Cold Conviction".
